The Weather Service (SAWS) confirmed a short-lived Tornado in Bishopstowe, KwaZulu Natal, on Sunday afternoon.

The SAWS said it occurred around 17:00.

“The curved landscape likely helped the storm rotate and even produce small hail. Soon after, stronger storms moved in from the west, increasing wind, moisture, and instability. This created the perfect setup for a brief tornado between 17:20 and 17:40.”

The EThekwini Municipality’s Disaster Management team said a severe rainstorm overnight, left parts of the City flooded, fallen trees, and damaged vehicles.

The City also said worst affected areas are in Durban Central and Southern Region.

Some 22 incidents were reported, particularly in Chatsworth and Morningside.

13 were recorded in the Western Region and about seven in the Northern areas, including Newlands West.
