SANParks confirmed enforcement officials in the Kruger National Park (KNP), suspect the missing car belonging to murdered couple (Dina (73) and Ernst Marais (71), did not exit through any of the nine access gates or the two international border posts into Mozambique.
The Park’s rangers suspect the car was driven through the bush, over the fence and into Mozambique.
They deduced this from following what they believe to be tire tracks of the missing vehicle.
The couple was found murdered next to a river on Friday, with multiple stab wounds each.
SANParks said police are leading the investigation into the matter, while the Park has tightened security controls across specific areas of concern in the Nxanatseni North Region.
This includes deploying additional monitoring and ranger resources in areas of concern and enhancing technology systems to strengthen surveillance and early warning capabilities.
