The SA Plastics Pact 2030 Targets were launched by GreenCape in Cape Town, on Monday.
These targets are updated goals of reducing reliance on virgin materials and moving towards recycling outputs, and building scalable reuse models.
Speaking at the event, Willie Aucamp, the Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, said stronger partnerships are important in efforts to reduce plastic pollution and advance South Africa’s circular plastics economy.
“We all want to see an economy where plastic is valued and beneficiated. Together, we can turn the tide on plastic pollution.”
Aucamp also signed the SA Plastics Pact Member Commitment on behalf of the Department.
The Mamogala Musekene, the DDG of the Department joined other organisations represented at the event, including the SA Plastics Pact Steering Committee, Petco and WWF South Africa.
