Transnet has begun the testing and commissioning of Tippler 3 project at the Saldanha Iron Ore Terminal.
The project aims to modernise terminal operations, strengthen export corridors and position South Africa as a globally competitive supplier in the mining and bulk logistics sector.
It cost the state rail company R4 billion to implement it.
Dr Andile Sangqu, Transnet Board Chairperson, said in his address at an event celebrating the project, that the addition of Tippler 3, is expected to improve operational resilience, enhance reliability and enable the efficient flow of iron ore from rail to vessel, strengthening the freight logistics value chain.
