About 515 police officers will be participating in this year’s 99th Comrades Marathon on Sunday, 14 June 2026.

Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal; said the 515 represent provinces and divisions from across South Africa.

Other organisations with new introductions for this year’s comrades, include the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA).

This year PRASA encouraged spectators to hop onto a train and watch the race from there.

The train leaves at 6:30am and returns around 15:30 for R20.

PRASA also said spectators can bring sufficient refreshments for the day as well as suitable outdoor seating, to view the race from Cato Ridge.

The marathon organisers introduced a three-group start and an all-new “traffic-light” cut-off system this year.

Dubbed the “Up Run” it features a slightly shorter 85.77 km route from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.
