There is no exact figure on the number of protests occurring countrywide in South Africa, on June 30, 2026. 

The deadline was set by emerging movements, tackling about a million illegal migrants.

Protests are in eight of the nine provinces.

Authorities in all provinces issued travel warnings to expect traffic delays on main roads.

Government announced a security tightening amounting to R600 million throughout the country ahead of the protests.

Three foreign nationals were killed and journalists assaulted, in Jeppestown on Monday.

But security organisation (ISS Africa) warned both protesters and the police to prioritise lives in the protests.

Two Mozambican nationals were also killed in late May, when violence erupted in the coastal town of Mossel Bay, Western Cape.

One Malawian national was also killed in the June unrest in the Jika Joe informal settlement in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.

Foreign embassies, including the United States, issued alerts warning citizens to avoid large public gatherings and expect reduced mission operations.
