The set date of Friday, the 10th of July, for the reopening of the Cango Caves Road, is drawing closer.
Last week, the Western Cape Government said all major rockfall debris was removed from the roadway.
But despite all this, the road remained closed, and declared unsafe for public use.
The road surface sustained damage, following June floods in the province.
The Province said geotechnical specialists continue to assess the road.
Teams are also stabilising the rock slope, while also repairing and preparing the road surface.
The Province also said it would await a go ahead from geotechnical teams, to reopen the road under Stop/Go traffic control by Friday, 10 July 2026.
