Police in Tzaneen, Phalaborwa, and Mankweng, seized illicit and counterfeit goods valued at R77.9 million, just before the weekend.
About 162,072 items were seized during the operation, including branded clothing and footwear, jewellery, cosmetics, fashion accessories, toys, consumable goods, illicit medicines, agricultural products, including pesticides and honey, alcohol, as well as electrical, automotive and mechanical products.
Major General Jan Scheepers, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, applauded law enforcement partners working with the police in the operation.
He also said the operation was led by the National Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Unit working closely with Public Order Policing (POP), the South African Revenue Service (SARS) Customs, the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA), the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS), the Department of Agriculture and Brand Protectors.
