The Department of Roads and Public Works in the Northern Cape, is planning to implement a series of emergency interventions, to stabilise two critical sections of the Calvinia Clanwilliam Road.
This is after floods caused extensive damage to parts of that road, in May.
A technical team from the Department conducted a detailed assessment of flood damage along the first 20 kilometres of the road on Friday.
The road falls within the Hantam Local Municipality.
The Department also said planned rehabilitation works will also include the installation of culverts, ripping, filling and compacting of an estimated 800 metres of the road.
In addition, the construction of a drainage hump to divert stormwater away from the roadway and reduce the risk of further erosion, will be implemented.
After completing these critical repairs, the Department said it plans to undertake spot regravelling on selected sections of the road, commencing from the 50 kilometre mark from Soetwater Farm towards Clanwilliam.
