Over 40mm of rain was measured at King Phala airport on Wednesday.
The Buffalo City Municipality said 32,2mm of rain was measured at Spring Valley, Nahoon Dam (31,2mm), Bridle drift (25,6mm) and about 21,8mm in Bisho/Qonce.
The Municipality also said its traffic department would continue to monitor road conditions across Mdantsane following Wednesday’s heavy rains.
Motorists are advised to avoid the R102 near Nahoon Dam and Billie Road near Vukuhambe.
The tar in sections of both roads was washed away.
The Municipality further urged motorists to reduce speed and maintain a safe following distance.
In KZN, snow arrived as forecast, between the Underberg and Swartberg mountains in KwaZulu-Natal.
Siboniso Duma, the MEC of Transport and Human Settlements, said “our energized and dedicated team from the Road Traffic Inspectorate is monitoring snowfall very closely as guided by the Snow Response Plan.”
Therein, graders will be availed to remove snow, once it reaches 30 cm.
“We do not want a repeat of what we witnessed for the first time in history in September 2024 along the N3, South West of KZN and Newcastle” he said.
The South African Weather Service issued a warning against damaging winds between KwaDukuza and Kosi Bay.
