Over 160 square miles of land including forests were burnt to ashes in France’s summer heatwave.
Unlike in Spain, no casualties were reported, as fires rage on in southwestern France – Gironde region near the city of Bordeaux and the coastal area of Le Porge.
The fires, which began in June, are believed to have been started by someone.
Réseau Centres de Soins Faune Sauvage (RCSFS) is actively scouting and rescuing wild animals.
“Entire forests that once sheltered wild animals are infernos, creating death traps for helpless creatures. Those who aren’t burnt to death are forced to flee through walls of fire and choking smoke, leading to severe and debilitating injuries” said the organisation, in a plea for donations.
They have rescued hedgehogs, foxes, squirrels and deers.
