More than 60 firefighters are battling to contain a wildfire at the Kloofnek Corner, in Cape Town.
The fighters are from Table Mountain National Park, the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Service as well as Volunteer Wildfire Services.
The South African National Parks (SANParks) said in a statement, evacuations are currently underway at the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Lower Station.
Moreover, the Contour Path and surrounding trails between Kloofnek and the Lower Cableway Station, are closed until further notice.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
JP Smith, the mayoral committee member responsible for safety and security for the City of Cape Town, said “we have sent an Incident Managment Team, along with 12 fire engines and 4 water tankers, to assist them with the firefighting efforts.”
