Strong winds caused extensive damage to homes in Edenburg and Koppies, in the Free State.
The South African Red Cross shared pictures of damaged roofs as a result of gale force winds, on Tuesday.
The Red Cross said in an update on social media, that 52 houses were destroyed in Lucas Tsheke and Viljoenskroon.
The organisation’s assessments continue, and monitoring at Gariep, Edenburg and Thabo Mofutsanyana.
The Huguenot Tunnel on the N1 between Paarl and Worcester was closed to heavy vehicles in both directions due to high wind speeds reaching up to 150 km/h.
It is open to light motor vehicles.
