The Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) intercepted and impounded large trucks along the N3, on Wednesday, for failure to comply with the Province’s Snowfall Response Plan and the National Road Traffic Act.
These laws disallow abnormal load operations, on harzadous roads.
Siboniso Duma, MEC of Transport in KwaZulu Natal, condemned this act of violating the National Road Traffic Act, which inhibits abnormal load operations, on hazardous roads.
The impounded trucks are currently at the Mkondeni Weighbridge, Pietermaritzburg.
“We commend the team for their strictness and for saving innocent lives. As we are experiencing a cut-off low-pressure system that has triggered snowfall and prolonged rainfall, our priority is to minimize congestion along major routes” he said.
Duma said that “already, we have witnessed several trucks overturning along the N3.”
