The Cedeberg Local Municipality is pleading with residents not to make outdoor fires on Thursday into Friday, due to an extreme wind and veld fire warning over the area.
The town said its Fire Danger Index (FDI) exceeds 75.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) confirmed damaging winds (at Level2), for the area, and the West Coast District.
The SAWS warned against strong gale force winds over, of up to 80km/h, over the Western Cape, Namaqua and Karoo Hoogland Municipality.
“Under these high – risk conditions, any veld fires that spark can develop and spread rapidly, posing an extreme threat to property, livestock and human life” warned the Municipality.
