The number of stray animals roaming the Cedeberg Municipal area, has increased in the last six months.
The Cederberg Municipality confirmed this, without giving the exact figures.
Fransiena Titus, Communications Officer at the Municipality said as a result, the town has introduced stricter measures to keep and impound animals.
“Stray animals in public spaces pose a significant risk to the safety of the community, road users, and the animals themselves. As a result, the municipality will tolerate no further negligence and will take firm action to restore law and order” said Titus in a news statement.
She also said the municipality may seize and impound any animal found in or on any road reserve or any public property, whether tended or not.
Any animal found trespassing on public or private property will be captured immediately and taken to the official municipal pound.
The Municipality appeals to residents and animal owners to cooperate with bylaws, by acting responsibly.
