Motorists are advised to avoid Siemert Road and Currey Street, in Doornfontein, because several cars were submerged in floodwaters.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) urged motorists to proceed cautiously across the City’s wet roads.

Several other incidents were reported in the City, including fallen trees on top of a mini bus taxi in Langlaagte on Saturday.

A tree also fell on top of a house in Protea Glen.

Elsewhere, strong winds blew off the rooftop in Linden, affecting 12 Apartments.

Similarly, a roof was blown off a house in Meadowlands Zone 5.

The South African Weather Service issued a level 5 against a storm in Johannesburg.

Hail and damaging winds are expected to accompany the rains.

Robert Mulaudzi, Spokesperson of City of Johannesburg’s Emergency Services (EMS) advised residents in low- lying areas to avoid crossing river streams.
