A man was killed by mud slides at Nyandezulu, on Sunday, following heavy rains, along the coastal belt from Margate through Oslo Beach to Port Shepstone.
The Ugu Disaster Management team also reported significant structural damages to roads, business premises, malls (including Shelly Centre) and other public infrastructure.
Numerous fallen trees are obstructing some roads, posing challenges to mobility, and substantial sinkholes were reported, in the Manaba area.
The Municipality’s Disaster Management and Fire and Rescue Services are currently on the ground, attending to emergencies and incidents.
Members of the public are advised to avoid crossing flooded bridges or low-lying roads and to stay clear of areas where sinkholes were identified.
