Parts of Alexandra, Inner City, Midrand and Reuven are in the dark, due to a veld fire that tripped the Sebenza Substation 275KV.
Isaac Mangena of City Power, said customers in parts of Alexandra, Inner City, Midrand and Reuven Service Delivery Centres are affected, including Kew, Gresswold, Elton, Melrose, Savoy, the Gardens, Orchards, Highlands North, Rouxville Waverley, Winston Ridge, Birdhaven, Abbotsford, Bramley, Savoy Ext
Benz-Valley, Bruma, Bertrams, Bellevue, Cyrildene, De Wetshof, Judith’s Paarl, Killarney, Houghton Estate, Oaklands
Norwood, Orchards, Linksfield Ridge, Cleveland, Benrose, Denver, Malvern, Silva monte, Sydenham, Sandringham, Glenhazel, Parktown, Observatory, Jeppestown, Jeppestown South Troyville, Tabolton, Heriotdale, Heriotdale Ext. 6, 7, 8, 9, 12,13, Greenstone and Modderfontein.
The Johannesburg Emergency Services is on site, trying to extinguish the fire underneath the transmission servitude.
Mangena said “our operators have also been dispatched to kickstart the process of restoring supply once the fire has been contained.
That process will include the assessment of the damage and whether serious repairs will be required before restoring full supply.”
The time of restoring supply is unknown at this stage.
