The body of a 44-year old man was recovered on Sunday afternoon, at approximately 13:00, at Metswetsaneng village, in the Northern Cape.

He is one of two men who were allegedly trying to cross a flooded bridge.

Heavy downpours led to floods in the Northern Cape since Wednesday evening, across large parts of the John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) District.

The search for the man’s body, was conducted by a team from the Provincial Search and Rescue, the Diving Unit, and the Kuruman K9 Unit.

Search efforts continue for the second man, who might have also drowned.

Mothibistad SAPS are investigating an inquest into the incident.

The Department of Roads and Public Works said on Saturday, nine (9) bridges were closed as a result of flood damage, including Carrington, Tsineng, Metsatseng, Ellendale, Dithakong, Ditsheping, Ga-Mopedi, Tsitsibala, and Bothetheletsa.
