Lektro Energy announced the construction of a new PV and battery backed system.
The company cooperated with Energy Partners, to deliver 2,86 Megawatts of solar, as well as 2,112 MWh of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project.
Nordex Energy South Africa also announced installation activities at Hartebeeshoek farm (uMsobomvu) were completed, and the focus would shift to achieving a commercial operation date.
The company said this achievement reflects months of collaboration, resilience and disciplined execution across every stage of the project.
The project is on the border of the Eastern Cape and Northern Cape provinces.
It is expected to generate 147.5 MW, using 25 Nordex N163/5.X turbines.
Still in the province, authorities met to accelerate the development of the Upington Energy Park and Green AI Data Centre, last week.
Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, joined Northern Cape Premier Dr. Zamani Saul in Upington alongside members of the Executive Council, the Head of the Independent Power Producers Office, and senior government officials.
The aim was to align key stakeholder involvement on the project’s next phase.
Discussions centered on project governance, ownership models, regulatory approvals, feasibility studies, investment mobilization, and the critical Section 34 activation process.
The Department of energy said “this initiative is a cornerstone of South Africa’s national agenda, driving economic growth, industrialization, and decarbonization. By integrating the Energy Park with the Upington Industrial Park, the project further solidifies the Northern Cape’s position as a strategic hub for renewable energy, critical minerals, and green industries.”
