The R71 road is closed due to community unrest in Phalaborwa.
The Lulekani community are marching to town.
The Ba Phalaborwa Municipality has warned motorists travelling from town to use alternative roads – Namakgale (Calvin Ngobeni Road) and the R530, to access town.
The town also said traffic officers are on site to manage traffic and ensure safety.
It is not clear what sparked the protests, but there have been numerous service interruptions after the floods, in Extension 1.
The town said the cause of disruption is a leak on Molengraaf Street, located beneath a large tree.
To address this, the Municipality said work will start by installing an isolation valve, before removing the tree, to get to the damaged pipe.
