The construction of two projects are set to continue in the Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality, despite withheld funding from the National Treasury.
One such project is the upgrading of Internal Water and Sewer Reticulation Pipes in Vaalwater and Leseding, valued at R108 million.
Others valued at R94.3 million, are the replacement of Asbestos Pipes in the town.
The Municipality assures residents in a statement that service delivery and capital projects are on track, despite not having received equitable shares.
Residents were urged to pay municipal service debt, which now stands at R1,4 billion rand.
“The equitable share is a critical source of funding for municipalities, particularly in supporting the provision of basic services to communities. Failure to receive the allocated equitable share, may have a significant impact on the municipality’s ability to deliver essential services such as water, sanitation, electricity, waste management and road maintenance” admitted the town in a statement.
