Ms. Boitumelo Mosako is the Development Bank of Southern Africa’s new CEO, who has replaced Patrick Dlamini as from the 01st April 2023. She was the bank’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and was hailed for her role of taking the organisation to new heights in that role. Following Cabinet’s approval of the recommendation to appoint her from the Board in March, all eyes are on her as the first black woman to ever take up reigns at the DBSA.

Prof. Swilling of the DBSA Board confirmed this, “this is an admirable feat for the Bank, she is the first black woman to be recommended for this role, and we are proud that this move happened from within the Bank. It is really testament to the strength of the institution, as a sanctuary for development practitioners, and we will rally behind her as she assumes her new role and meets all its critical demands.”

A statement released by the DBSA between now and April 1, the Bank would continue work according to its core mandate to promote inclusive economic growth through sustainable infrastructure development and contributing towards building Africa’s prosperity.

Swilling also spoke well of the outgoing Dlamini, who has been at the helm since September 2012. “Mr. Dlamini had an impact on every single person at the DBSA. The conviction with which he led the Bank over the last decade, and the institutional credibility he assisted bolster is one for the books. And indeed, he did not do this alone, it was all possible with the support of a capable team of executives, divisional heads, managers, practitioners and experts, and administration.”

We wish Ms Mosako all the best in her new position. We will bring you a detailed interview with her shortly.
