Yes, according to the Council for Geoscience South Africa.
The Council said in a report feedback, the origin of the tremor is within the Central Rand, in Crown mine.
It is confirmed the tremor was 2.3ML, at 20:26. After shocks happened at around 20:28 the same evening of 1.5ML, and the following Sunday morning, at 07:53am of 2.5ML.
Johannesburg has also had 3 earthquakes this year alone, one in Roodepoort, on the West Rand (20th June 2024), others in Boksburg (11 June 2024) and in Soweto (22 January 2024).
The main cause is suspected to eminate from Mooifontein dam located on the South West of Johannesburg.
The Council suspects the dam could lie between a network of fault or structures intersecting each other.
