Severe floods have caused damage estimated at R3.1 Billion in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN.

As a result the KZN Province has declared Durban, a National State of Disaster on Saturday, the 8 March 2025.

The floods also left 12 people dead, in the Province, from 16 to 28 February 2025.

Thulasizwe Buthelezi, MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, said the declaration, promulgated in terms of Section 23(1)(b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2002, represents a critical intervention to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive response to the devastating consequences of the recent disruptive rainfall, thunderstorms, floods, and powerful winds.

Buthelezi also said the declaration will facilitate  key actions from organs of state to augment support measures and implement contingency protocols, thereby mitigating the disaster’s impact within our communities.
