Some suburbs in the South of Johannesburg are without electricity on Monday, due to maintenance work underway at the Wemmer Substation this morning.
Areas affected are Bassonia, Rosettenville, The Hill, Turfontein, City deep, Regents Park, Roseacre, Kenilworth and parts of Oakdene and surrounds.
City Power’s Isaac Mangena, said the emergency maintenance work was initiated to address an urgent network infrastructure concern.
“This maintenance is essential to ensure the reliability and safety of our electricity supply.
We were forced to embark on this emergency isolation, a day before another planned maintenance at Wemmer Substation, due to a threat picked at the substation.”
Electricity is expected to be restored at around 4pm on Monday, but City Power is going ahead with planned maintenance scheduled for tomorrow, the 11th February, and the 18th February.
