A wildlife vet and a team of organisations successfully implemented a rescue plan to move a sub-adult male elephant seal to the ocean.
The seal was stranded in Gordon’s Bay, since the early hours of Tuesday morning, where he was spotted by a resident, in Sir Lowry Pass Road.
Representatives from different organisations, worked together for nine hours, to move him back to sea, including the City of Cape Town’s Marine Unit, SANParks, Two Oceans Aquarium, and Shark Spotters, Law Enforcement – Traffic Services and SAPS, the Gordon’s Bay Medical Ambulance Services & Gordon’s Bay Security Services.
The NSPCA said “we are extremely thankful for the incredible show of concern for the Elephant Seal’s welfare and thank every role-player for the incredible teamwork. Animal Rescue does take a village!”
