Employees of Joburg Water (JW)  have downed tools amidst concerns of constrained resources.

JW confirmed its employees are on strike involving the South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU).

The entity’s Nondumiso Mabuza, said in a statement, the strike is unprotected and began on Friday, the 06th February 2026.

JW said it is exhausting all labour relations channels, including ensuring the strike remains a “no work no pay.”

The entity also said reservoirs supplying Midrand are strained with very little inflow, but four are supplying fairly, including Erand, Grand Central, President Park and Steyn City.

The others are supplying adequately except the critically low Diepsloot reservoir.

On Tuesday afternoon, Mabuza said workers are back at work, following constructive engagement.
