Firefighting resources were stretched beyond limits in a fire that spread along the R62 between Montagu and Barrydale, across the Western Cape, for at least a week.
The Cape Winelands District Municipality said in a notice to residents on Saturday, Langeberg crews and resources, as well as others within the Region, including Ceres and Worcester were moved to Montagu, where the fire threatened several farms.
There was also limited water in some farms during the fire.
A helicopter was also deployed to water bomb some areas.
The Municipality also urged road users to avoid unnecessary travel on the R62 between Montagu and Barrydale.
But at around 1pm, rain poured down, miraculously, stopping the fire.
The fire was caused by a lighting strike near De Doorns.
