La Motte, Franschhoek
Firefighters are trying to extinguish two fire lines in La Motte, Franschhoek.
The Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Fire Services, reported good progress made with six firefighting vehicles and ground crews.
There has been no damage or loss of property, and no injuries reported, since the start of the fire.
The La Motte Wine Estate took to social media to explain the fire is not at the estate, but in the town.
The fire has been burning for a week.
Another fire in the Winelands, is at the Michell’s Pass.
The Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Fire Services said one contracted ground crew is on the scene and two crews are expected to join the team on Monday.
Botrivier
The fire was reported around 12.30 on Sunday, burning from the old cemetery, in a northerly direction.
The Fire Services and volunteers are working the lines.
Signall Hill
JP Smith, MMC for Safety & Security, confirmed a fire broke out at Signal Hill on Sunday evening, but was later contained.
Firefighters are currently monitoring the Noon Gun area, for any flare-ups.
Buffalo City
About 61 informal homes were destroyed in a fire, displacing about 81 people, over the weekend.
The fire was along Hill Street, at the East Bank informal settlement, in the CBD.
Amanda Mnyute, Councillor of the area, alongside Tandi Mahambehlala, Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, and Gift of the Givers, visited the affected community on Saturday to offer relief and comfort.
