Seriti Green has begun commercial operations at the Ummbila Emoyeni Wind Energy Facility, in Bethal, Mpumalanga.
The facility has 25 wind turbines to deliver up to 155 Megawatts (MW) of installed renewable energy capacity.
This is only the first phase of the project.
Ultimately upon completion, the company will be able to generate 900MW of wind energy.
The company committed R10 billion at the 6th South Africa Investment Conference, towards renewable energy, three years ago.
Speaking at an unveiling of a commemorative plaque marking the commencement of commercial operations, President Cyril Ramaphosa, spoke about the role of strong partnerships in delivering South Africa’s energy future.
He said the project shows how collaboration between government, Eskom, investors and local communities translates investment into inclusive economic growth.
The construction phase of the project created over 2000 jobs.
