Once water drops out of a toilet or tap, it is lost, with no hope of recovery.
On average, a leak can waste up to 30 litres of water an hour. In 24 hours, this amount can increase to 700 – 1,400 gallons of water lost.

Fixing easily corrected household water leaks can save homeowners about 10 percent on their water bills, according to the Department of Water Affairs and Sanitation.

The Department made a call last week for people to report water leaks to a toll free number (0800 200 200).

Fixing leaks guarantees water back to the system, more so for water strained areas. The Gamtoos Irrigation Board went all out on Monday, the 08th May 2023, to fix a leak at Chigwell. The nearby supplying dam in Kouga is currently at 14,51% capacity.
