The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM) has urged residents to report incidents caused by strong winds in Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth).

Sthembiso Soyaya, Spokesperson of the NMBM, said on Wednesday afternoon, there is a risk of tree falls and power lines falling, as a result of strong winds.
“Residents are urged to be vigilant and report incidents to the electricity and energy call center on 0415065595.” 

He also said residents of Mission Road and surrounding areas have a power outage, due to a  trip of the 22 kv circuit breaker at Greenbushes Industrial.

“A team was informed, and investigations and repairs will be carried out as soon as possible.”

Robyn Rensburg, from the NMBM Electricity & Energy Directorate, said on Tuesday this week, that over 1200 streetlights, were either repaired or installed, from the 01st July to the 12th August 2024.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has cautioned against strong winds in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and surrounds.
In an update, SAWS said winds could damage settlements, infrastructure, and could hamper driving and activity at the harbour.
Gale force winds of between of 66km/h  and above, are expected to last until Thursday, between Plettenberg Bay and Ngqushwa.
