The role of municipalities in shaping resilient, inclusive, and green urban environments, is in the spotlight, at the Moses Mabhida Stadium and People’s Park in Durban.

This as the Institute of Environment and Recreation Management (IERM) convention, is well underway, having started on Wednesday, the 3rd until Friday, the 5th September 2025.

Environmental and recreation professionals, municipal leaders, academics and innovators, are all present to discuss sustaining urban development.

The host City, eThekwini Municipality, will showcase its own innovative projects, such as the Bat Monitoring Project and spatial tree assessments.

Themed “Sustaining Urban Spaces – Best Practices for Innovative Parks and Recreation Management,” the meeting is expected to deliver on innovative ways to protect nature under threat from rapid development, such as parks, trees and other vegetation.
