A truck trailer has blown over on the M17 in Motherwell, there are also reports of tree falls close to Royalton, as a result of strong winds.
The South African Weather Service, has forecast the speed of the wind in Southern KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday, to reach up to 80 kilometers per hour (km/h).
The wind could bring disruptions to local areas between Port Edward and Richards Bay, extending to between Port Edward and Kosi Bay.
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), issued an alert to residents on Thursday.
“A cold front currently passing over Southern KZN today, bringing strong southerly to south-westerly winds, is expected to lead to potential damage to homes and temporary structures.”
The wind will make it difficult to navigate at sea, for small vessels and boats.
“We strongly advise residents to secure their homes and belongings. Small boat owners should avoid going out to sea, and beachgoers are urged to stay away from the water during this period.”
COGTA said its disaster teams are on high alert and will continue to closely monitor the situation.
