The Minerals Council South Africa is calling for input to the Consolidated Mining Standard Initiative.
This effort will set a high benchmark for responsible mining and drive continuous improvement in the mining industry.
It will also encourage responsible practices, such as embracing a full life-cycle approach to metals and minerals production, to promote positive contributions to society, address impacts on people and the environment, as well as support a circular economy.
The Council said, people and organizations can now provide feedback on the draft Standard and multi-stakeholder oversight system.
“Your views are important in delivering positive outcomes for industry, local communities, the environment and others in the minerals and metals value chain – from mining to smelting, refining and beyond.”
The public consultation is open until 16 December 2024.
