Eskom has submitted a proposal to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) to increase the electricity tariff by 36,15% next year, from the 01st April 2025.

The tariff is expected to decrease in 2026 to 11, 8% in 2027 and another 9, 10% in 2028.

The NERSA is expected to start the public participation on Eskom’s price determination application.
This methodology, now in its sixth application; is referred to as MYPD 6.

NERSA said in a statement, on Monday, Eskom’s revenue application amounts to R446bn for the 2025/26 financial year, R495bn for the 2026/27
financial year and R537bn for the 2027/28 financial year.

“The main drivers of Eskom’s revenue application are primary energy, operating costs, independent power producers (IPPs), international purchases and depreciation.”

The next step is the publication of the consultation paper and accompanying documents, already on NERSA’s website, for comments.

The deadline for comments is the 01st November 2024.

Public hearings begin on the 18th of November to the 04th December 2024.
