Monday is the hottest day in the United Kingdom (UK), estimated at 35 degrees Celsius.

The Met Office said in an update, this is a record-breaking high, since 1944, when the temperatures exceeded 32.8.

Tuesday will be another very hot day, with temperatures peaking at 35°C in London, the Home Counties and Cambridgeshire.

Steve Kocher, Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster, said “it is likely that the May and Spring UK temperature records will be broken over the Bank Holiday weekend, with forecast temperatures surpassing the existing record of 32.8°C. As well as it being hot, there will be lots of dry and sunny weather for much of the UK.”

The UK Health Security Agency issued an early Amber Heat-Health Alert over the West Midlands, East Midlands, East of England, South East, and London.

Overnight temperatures are expected to stay above 20 degrees Celsius.
