The Gauteng High Court has ordered the Minister of Police and the MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management in the North West, to allow communities and organizations to provide food, water and medication to trapped miners, within 2 hours of the Court ruling, on Sunday, the 01st December 2024.
The Lawyers for Human Rights (LHR) representing the Mining Affected Communities United in Action (MACUA), said in a statement on Sunday, the order highlights the illegal miners’ right to life and the right not to have the quality of their life diminished.
The LHR and MACUA are expected to return to court on Thursday this week, to seek additional relief for the miners.
