Water users in Johannesburg, were cautioned to expect delays in the resolution of faults, response times and other “non-critical requests.”
This is because employees of Johannesburg Water (Joburg Water) joined a strike organised by the South African Workers Union (SAMWU), since Tuesday this week.
As a result, the union organised sit-ins and protests.
The local water entity said this action is “unprotected” and related to the Politically Facilitated Agreement (PFA wage deal).
The PFA contains a R10.3 billion implementation of delayed salary updates, grading and fixing pay disparities.
Moreover, the Joburg Water said its CEO disapproved the request from union leadership to give employees time off, to join related meetings.
In a communiqué addressed to customers on Wednesday afternoon, the entity said it has implemented contingency measures to limit disruptions.
