Care for wild rhino, a sanctuary for rhino, reported the birth of Khanya’s baby boy, on Sunday this week.
Rangers on duty at the facility, in the Intensive Protection Zone, spotted the little one, up on his feet, suckling from mommy Khanya.
The care centre said Khanya’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable.
She was rescued in 2017, after poachers killed her mom.
“She arrived at Care for Wild as a scared, 6 months old, orphaned calf. Today, she stands as a symbol of strength and hope, a testament to the years of effort and dedication from Petronel and the team.
This birth marks the 25th calf born at Care for Wild, a significant milestone in our efforts to secure the future of this keystone species. Every rhino calf is a symbol of hope, and this little one carries the promise of a brighter future for rhinos.”
