The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) and Amatola Water, officially handed over the Misgund Water Supply Project to the Koukamma Local Municipality, on Sunday, to coincide with International Water Day.

Misgund is part of Tsitsikamma, in the Eastern Cape.

The handover ceremony was attended by Dr Gaster Sharpley -Amatola Water Board Chairperson, Lindokuhle Nzoyi -Acting Chief Executive, and DWS officials led by Portia Makhanya. 

Also present were the Mayor of the Sarah Baartman District Municipality, and dignitaries from Koukamma Local Municipality, as well as members of the Misgund community.

All stakeholders were warmly welcomed by Sam Vuso, the Mayor.

Amatola Water said key features of the project are a new control building equipped with electrical systems, raw water storage tanks, a prefabricated 300-kilolitre reservoir, a water pump station, a 200 mm bulk water supply system, an operational package water treatment plant and modified bulk mains connecting all boreholes to the Water Treatment Works.
