The Mining Affected Communities United in Action (MACUA) has condemned police action against protesters in the Mmaditlhokwa section of Marikana, in the North West, on Wednesday.
Community members from Mmaditlhokwa, in Marikana, took to the streets on Wednesday, to protest against the destructive and dangerous blasting by mining operations in the area.
MACUA’s Magnificent Mndebele, said blasting has damaged their homes, endangered their children, and stripped them of peace.
“Instead of being met with dialogue and dignity, the community was met with bullets.”
Mndebele also said MACUA wants all police operations to be withdrawn from Mmaditlhokwa, and an urgent investigation into the use of force against unarmed civilians exercising their constitutional rights.
