Magalies Water is an immediate intervention to tackle the Hammanskraal water crisis, President Cyril Ramaphosa, said while visiting the area on Thursday, the 08th June 2023.
He said the water board would construct a temporary waste water treatment works structure in 6 months to alleviate the problem. The problematic Rooiwal Waste Water Treatment Works is expected to be completed in the next 3 years.
He also said Government is strengthening relations to unleash and share resources. The Department of Water and Sanitation is expected to work closely with Municipalities along with Cogta (Department of Cooperative Government and traditional affairs).
Other measures include employing people with the right set of skills to do the job, such as engineers. He also mentioned water wardens would be employed among the youth.
“Our state is prepared to fix problems” said Ramaphosa. These include crime in the area and creating jobs.
He emphasized a need for a culture of maintaining infrastructure which has resulted in water, electricity glitches and potholes in large parts of the country’s roads.
