A man was arrested with 15 tons of gold bearing material and two AK-47 rifles, on Wednesday this week, west of Johannesburg.

The man was also carrying two magazines loaded with 48 rounds of ammunition.

Police forming part of the West Rand District Rural Safety and other law enforcement officers, arrested the man, during a disruptive operation at Blaaubankspruit, in Magaliesburg.

They received a complaint of illegal miners (Zama Zamas) harassing the farming community there.

The suspect is expected to appear before the local Magistrate Court, for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
