The Mitchell Park Zoo, in eThekwini will close temporarily, on 01st April 2025.
The eThekwini Municipality said the closure will allow maintenance work to start, including the revamp of fencing, paving and the play area.
The 100 year old facility, was badly affected by the recurrent adverse weather conditions, such as the recent floods.
Public safety concerns, including unsafe playground equipment and exposed concrete surfaces, necessitated the closure, the City said in a statement.
The restoration work will be undertaken in partnership with organisations such as the Woodford Group and On the Verge, bringing together local businesses and community members in supporting the park’s restoration and enhancement.
