Motorists are urged to avoid the N3 Eastbound, which is flooded, near the Tollgate Bridge.
The eThekwini Municipality announced the closure of three lanes, due to high water levels on the freeway, following heavy rains.
Despite emergency services and Metro Police on site to manage traffic flow, the Municipality advised motorists to rather use alternative routes, exercise extreme patience, and allow for travel delays.
The Municipality also said its emergency response teams remain on high alert and are actively monitoring low-lying areas, informal settlements, and major road networks.
This follows warnings against heavy rains expected over parts of KwaZulu-Natal, including eThekwini.
