The eThekwini Municipality’s Disaster Management said it responded to mudslides which collapsed three homes, at Ward 15, Tshelimnyama, in Mariannhill, near Pinetown.
Emergency responders immediately secured and cleared the affected site.
No fatalities, injuries, or entrapments were reported during the incident, but about fourteen (14) people were affected.
Water is rising across parts of Durban following overnight rains.
Isipingo Beach River is rising rapidly.
As a result, the Disaster Management Department has decided to breach the river mouth, to release the water and prevent flooding low-lying areas, such as Crab City.
A soccer field in the area is already flooding.
About 60mm of rainfall was recorded between Platrand and Standerton, since Thursday afternoon.
The Gamtoos Water Association, in the Eastern Cape, said the Kouga dam is 100.80%, spilling at 17 000 litres per second.
The Groot rivier weir is running at 65 000 litres per second.
Other dams are also full, including Churchill dam 100.69% and Impofu dam 100.6%.
