The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Disaster Management Centre, is intensifying its Winter Disaster Awareness Campaign, to prevent fires in informal settlements.
The Metro said its focus is on emergency preparedness.
Disaster Centre Management took the safety awareness campaign to Kunene Park, over the weekend and also to Sherwood informal settlement.
The municipality said it would continue to engage with various communities, as part of its commitment to eradicate fires and promote safety.
The campaign was launched over the weekend, just as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) upgraded the warning against disruptive snow, to Level 6, on Monday, the 09th June 2025, across the Eastern Cape.
SAWS has warned against danger to life, pass closures and communities cut-off, in Joe Gqabi district municipality, Enoch Mgijima (Molteno), Matatiele, Amathola, OR Tambo district municipality and Buffalo City Metro.
Disruptive rain at Level 5 is expected to pour down buckets, in the Alfred Nzo district municipality, Nelson Mandel Bay Metro, Makana, Ndlambe, Sundays River, Valley, Kouga and Koukamma.
